I met April Moo and her family last January when they all piled into my Highlander bound for Katy Tartakoff's photography studio. Katy made a gift of family portraits to dozen families living at Hope Communities properties. Many refugee families have to leave their homes quickly and family photos are often and item that gets left behind.

As we drove across Denver this kids asked lots of questions, some common to any family new to Denver, like "Why do people still have their Christmas lights up?" Other questions opened a lens into their family history. The Moo family came to the US from Thailand ten years ago, but they are originally from Burma. They lived in a refugee camp in Thailand for two years. The family includes April, her grandmother Hella Moe, and April’s children Namu, Hsermoo, , and Samuel. The kids shared stories about new Christmas traditions they have learned her in the US and what they have been learning in school - Place Bridge Academy. On the way back home they talked about how amazing it was to see Katy move their grandmother's smile from one picture into another picture where everyone else had smiles.

Any recurring monthly donation that is set up on now on Colorado Gives is eligible for a 100% match, up to $100.  Your monthly pledge could support resource navigators who help hundreds of immigrant and refugee families. For each family, that support is customized to what they need - housing, rent assistance, employment, education, language support, and more.

Many immigrants and refugees are worried about what is to come in future months. Hope Communities wants to be ready to provide support, no matter what is needed. You can help us be ready!

For every donation on Colorado Gives to my campaign, I will add in an additional $25. My goal is to do that 25 times! Will you take the challenge?
