About us

We are an organization created and run by Latinx therapists on a mission to increase mental health care providers serving the Latinx Spanish speaking community and empowering our next generation of Latinx therapist. We are also a fiscally sponsored nonprofit project under Colorado Nonprofit Development Center (CNDC). 

Why we do the work

Colorado has a large Latinx population that local behavioral healthcare agencies are unable to keep up with in providing linguistically & culturally appropriate mental health/substance abuse services due to shortage of Latinx mental health providers & shortage of Latinx individuals entering into the profession.  LTP seeks to increase the amount of Latinx individuals entering into the mental health and substance abuse care field through its workforce development infrastructure program, therefore building long-term, increased equity in mental health and substance abuse/misuse outcomes. A healthier Colorado for all!

Our Inception Story

LTP CO was born out of the suffering and need in our communities. Our story begins in 2021 when our founder, Bridget Sanchez, noticed the desperate need for Spanish speaking clinicians and witnessed unbearable suffering and long-awaited reprieve from a clinician who understood their language/culture- such as the story of "Martha" (name/exact details changed to protect privacy). Martha had been dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for over 30 years (yes, 30 years!) before finally coming to treatment. Martha had such debilitating symptoms that prevented her from being able to have any peace in her day-to-day to day life. The suffering she went through was unimaginable. She struggled to do daily tasks, connect with others, and was unable to work due to the severity of her symptoms. Martha wondered why God would have created her to live life in such a way. Martha had not received treatment previously due to not being able to find a mental health clinician who spoke Spanish in her rural community. Incredibly, after only 3 months of treatment, Martha no longer had debilitating symptoms and had improved to the point of no longer meeting clinical criteria for PTSD. Martha in tears discussed feeling she had been given a "new life" and was in awe of the newfound peace and mindfulness she had gained. Martha described feeling she was tasting food for the first time, smelling new scents for the first time and being able to observe the beauty around her. This is the story that inspired LTP CO to finally come to life. If one person could have such transformational life results due to finally having access to a culturally/linguistically familiar mental health clinician how many more people lives'/ communities could be transformed by increasing access to care in their language/culture? Martha's story and countless other beautiful and brave people who entrusted their care are what fuels LTP CO to do their work every day. These individuals and all of the unspoken individuals who are still in the shadows or those who have lost their lives to mental health conditions are what makes LTP CO committed to increasing equity in our community.
