ACC Staff's Run for Refugees

Now, more than ever, it is crucial that we stand up for those fleeing war, persecution, and violence. The suspension of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) has already caused harm to thousands of vulnerable individuals, including children, denying them the safe refuge they desperately need. 

We need your help to continue providing critical services to our refugee and immigrant community members.

Here's why some members of our staff are participating in our Run for Refugees:

Emma, our Co-Sponsorship Coordinator, says: "I am participating to bring awareness to the refugee community in Denver! Since Denver is a huge part of the welcoming community, I want to show up, tell people we're running for refugees and hope to widen the welcoming community!"

Sarah, our Cultural Orientation Coordinator, says: “I see this event as a great way to spread the word about the great work ACC is doing and hopefully fundraise a little along the way. It's a fun way to raise awareness and spend time together as a team!’’

The African Community Center of Denver (ACC) is a refugee resettlement agency with a mission to help refugees and immigrants rebuild safe, sustainable lives in Denver. They welcome families fleeing persecution from all over the world, from countries such as Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ukraine,  and others. 

In FY2024, ACC welcomed over 1,350 refugees & immigrants- the highest number they’ve ever welcomed during a twelve month period. They need support from the community to continue providing services to the increasing number of newcomers arriving in the U.S.

This May, supporters, volunteers, and refugee community members will come together to Run for Refugees at the Colfax Marathon races on May 17th & 18th. In addition to raising awareness for ACC, participants have the opportunity to set a fundraising goal to reach ahead of race day.
