Calling on all our amazing MVHR volunteers & other supporters!
As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary Year we'd like to acknowledge all the amazing volunteers, past & present, who have supported MVHR by caring for the rescue herd. Whether you are here every week, come very now and then or volunteered your time and efforts at any point over the last 20 years - THANK YOU! MVHR can not exist without YOU, our wonderful volunteers who come out to the ranch and dedicate their time to the horses in our care.
With this being a very special year ahead, Louise Williams is rallying all her volunteer peers to come together to underwrite a horse. Here is her story and ask to you:
"A year ago today I started volunteering at MVHR. It all began with a flyer hanging in a deli that said, “volunteers needed, no experience necessary”, I had some time and no experience, so I thought this was right up my alley. Two days later I started with my husband Scott. We go every week, no matter the weather, and to be honest it’s as much for our sanity as for the horses. Before our mucking (we’re mucking professionals at this point) we go corral to corral giving scratches and hellos to all the horses. The bond we’ve built is beyond words. What an opportunity to be surrounded by 30 horses and an occasional mule!
"Recently I’ve been thinking that it would be amazing for us volunteers to sponsor a horse… meaning we'd take care of all the costs for a horse for a year. We could let all of our friends and families know we’ve got our own horse up at MVHR, even though we don’t have the yard for one at home!"
"As far as candidates go, if you’ve met Babe and spent time with her you know she’s a beautiful buckskin with tons of personality (see the picture below….that’s Scott, my husband discussing this project with Babe, and she is receptive!)"
Babe is mid teens and has a condition called Navicular syndrome which is a degenerative disease in horses that affects the navicular bone and surrounding structures in the foot. She is scheduled to receive a procedure called a neurectomy, where a piece of nerve gets removed to alleviate the pain the syndrome causes. We hope this procedure will help her be more comfortable instead of being in the pain she currently is.
"This coming week her BFF and paddock mate Carmel (as in …by the sea, not the candy) will be euthanized for severe health reasons. These two came from different places yet became inseparable and are our Hopeful Hearts matches! It's a very sad and difficult time for Babe! "
"So Now is the perfect time to GIDDY UP, and sponsor Babe (Sometimes I call her Babalooooo :) I can’t do it alone, but We volunteers could join together and sponsor Babe!"
If we each donate what we can…even $10 a person, we can make it happen! There’s a lot of us, over 600 in the volunteer database, and we could proudly say … we volunteers together sponsor Babe!! The commitment that we show will be a powerful and indelible mark on Mountain Valley Horse Rescue! And perhaps inspire others!
Let's Giddy Up and Make it Happen!
Thank you so so much,
Louise Williams
