Ayla Sullivan, the Communications Coordinator for the Gender and Sexuality Center at CU Boulder as well as Denver's current reigning Youth Poet Laureate and I are collaborating to dramatize the narratives of trans and gender non-conforming theatre artists in order to distill them into a script, titled "Trans/Actions," which I will be directing at the inaugural Theatre Made in Boulder Festival at noon on Sunday, February 4th.
We are raising funds through Colorado Gives, and 100% of these funds will be used to pay our cast of transgender and gender non-conforming theatre artists!
Our cast will be comprised of trans performers sourced from CU Boulder, Out Boulder County and Phoenix: Colorado's Trans Choir. Our audacious goal is that the staged reading and subsequent online video of the performance will spark a national dialogue about how the American theatre industry can swiftly implement practices to be more inclusive of gender diversity. The mentor for this project is Leigh Fondakowski, who was the head writer of "The Laramie Project."
We are so honored that The Catamounts have agreed to be our fiscal sponsor for this production, so that we can offer our donors the opportunity to make a deductible donation through Colorado Gives. This project also aligns with the Catamounts' commitment to producing adventurous, boundary-pushing work while employing a diverse body of artists.
