About Colorado Dream Foundation

Colorado Dream Foundation is a long-term partner to youth. We believe that through a deep, sustained commitment to youth and their families, our community can thrive, and our work together can be a key catalyst in fighting systemic oppression. We travel side-by-side with the same group of youth and their families as they navigate education and life, offering academic, social, and emotional support as they learn, grow, and achieve their dreams. No one should take this journey alone. When we fulfill our promises, anything is possible.

Since our founding in 1988, Colorado Dream Foundation has leveraged proven methods accounting for the whole child and given youth equal access to the resources they need to succeed. Colorado Dream Foundation partners with youth and their families from elementary school through college and career using a comprehensive support model focused on four key pillars:

  • Academic Development
  • Emotional Wellness Development
  • College & Career Development
  • Systems Advocacy

Testimonial

"After participating [in the DaVita Career Series], I've become more passionate about pursuing a career in healthcare. I explored various career roles and work environments and speaking with professionals really helped solidify my interest." – Dreamer, Class of 2026

Over the past year, our team has been actively working to secure new career exploration opportunities for our high school students.  Based on feedback from our older youth, there was significant interest in learning about different careers in the healthcare industry.  In 2024, we partnered with DaVita, to offer a six-week intensive career exploration of the medical profession for our high-school aged youth.

This comprehensive program took place on a college campus at Metro State University in Denver.  Students were provided with the opportunity to explore different careers in the medical industry with the guidance and mentorship of DaVita employees.  This career mentoring program has been very successful, and we’ve had increased youth participation, including additional high school students joining the career exploration who are not even part of our out-of-school time programming.  Colorado Dream Foundation values our corporate partners and continues to look for new opportunities to support our youth and families.  This is just one example of how our organization met a challenge and turned it into a success for the youth we serve!

Mission

Colorado Dream Foundation's mission is to partner with youth and their families as they successfully navigate school, college, and career by providing a holistic academic, social, and emotional program from elementary school through college, along with post-secondary scholarship assistance.

Background Statement

Standing on the back lawn of the Colorado Governor’s Mansion in 1988, a group of “twenty-somethings” came together with a common goal – inspired by Eugene Lang, Founder of the “I Have A Dream” Foundation in New York. Their dream was to take Eugene’s vision and create the Colorado Dream Foundation where individuals, civic-organization, corporations, and local and state government would make a long-term investment in Colorado’s children that could ultimately change the trajectory of a child’s life.

Today, many of those early supporters remain involved. They are joined by our current supporters and partners. We are grateful to everyone who has joined us on this journey and contributed through volunteer hours, financial support, and in-kind donations. It is only through our shared commitment that this work is possible. This work is about a deep, transformational commitment to the same individuals, month after month, year after year. At Colorado Dream Foundation, we invite a community of donors, supporters, families, educators, and youth to make a long-term investment in a better future.
