The Cooperating Ministry of Logan County (CMLC) has a full-scale food pantry program offering access to food daily, Monday through Friday, 10am thru 3:30pm.  CMLC is the primary provider for immediate food assistance in Logan County, which is isolated and rural.   The food pantry programs are a top priority for CMLC. In 2024, CMLC has seen a 200% increase in usage of our food pantry programs. Access to this basic need is central to the overall stability of a strong community and absolutely vital to personal health. This agency must obtain the necessary food provisions to meet current demand. Over the past five years, CMLC has doubled the “structural capacity” of this program to accommodate larger freezers and coolers.  At this time, “structural expansion” to our physical building is not our requirement, rather; growth needs to occur by the “number of times” that a client may access services through the food pantry program. Currently, households may utilize the CMLC’s food pantry program 4 times a year with 30 days between each use. Many of our clients have already reached their limits in the use of the food pantry in 2024. The need is great and CMLC would like to increase this use to 6 times a year for a household, giving individuals and families security in needed and necessary food provisions. This would only be applicable if funding is obtained to allow for the necessary purchasing of products and to help sustain this important and essential emergency food program in rural Logan County.

Most people don’t experience food insecurities within their households, but imagine what it would feel like to go without…..imagine what you have to sacrifice in one area to make up for another….imagine what foods you no longer taste….imagine having nothing, just imagine! CMLC was created to help fill the gap when households/individuals are experiencing a time of crisis or need.

Your donation will feed those that are hungry.

This program will require ongoing support.

We are neighbors working together to improve our community and assist in making a “healthier” tomorrow.

Giving Activity

Mission

CMLC has made it our mission to provide a coordinated emergency response to individuals and families in need and serve in the capacity as a traveler’s aid. To carry out this mission, CMLC mobilizes the resources of the religious and charitable organizations, local businesses, the municipalities, and the local government along with the private sector of this community.

Background Statement

The CMLC was founded in May 1981 by the Pastors of eight Sterling churches. Their goals were to temporarily assist local families and individuals and travelers who were stranded in the area. Aid would be in the form of food, lodging, and/or transportation needs. Support for the initial programs was received from a clothing outlet, congregations, the United Way, local governments, many service organizations, clubs, and hundreds of individuals. Almost from the beginning it became quite apparent that there was a need for a Food Pantry. Our current building, located at 230 North Tenth Avenue was purchased in July 1989, and was the former roller-skating rink. After complete remodeling it was dedicated on October 1, 1989. The many donations from grants, individuals, organizations, congregations, and businesses made it possible to be debt-free on January 3, 1990. Currently, CMLC is at the same location, providing services to include: The Thrift Store and used furniture sales, food pantry (three food programs), home health care equipment program, bus and gas vouchers, shower tokens and hygiene kits, prescription assistance, utility and water bill assistance, rental assistance, and a homelessness program. We have also grown from the original eight supporting churches to over 25 supporting churches and congregations.
