Celebrating Over 75 Years of Global Unity and Friendship

Celebrate over 75 years of citizen diplomacy and global friendship with Denver Sister Cities International (DSCI)! Connecting Denver with ten Sister Cities worldwide, DSCI empowers individuals of all ages to experience diverse cultures, build international partnerships, and foster lasting friendships that transcend borders.

In 2025, we mark milestone anniversaries with three of our Sister Cities: 65 years with Takayama, Japan; 50 years with Nairobi, Kenya; and 30 years with Axum, Ethiopia. These anniversaries highlight decades of shared history, cultural exchange, and mutual support, and we look forward to celebrating these deep-rooted relationships with the Denver community.

Through our pillars—Youth Development, Cultural Affairs, and Citizen Diplomacy—we bring the world to Denver and Denver to the world. Your support on Colorado Gives Day enables us to continue building these impactful programs, fostering community and peace.

We need your support to continue amplifying our mission uniting the world. Your gift will be immediately put to use in the following ways:

  • Develop Global Leaders: Fund scholarships for Denver youth to participate in transformative exchange programs through our Denver Young Ambassador Program, promoting intercultural understanding, leadership, and confidence.

  • Celebrate Cultural Diversity: Host arts and cultural festivals, artist exchanges, and public events that bring the traditions of our Sister Cities to Denver, enhancing appreciation for global cultures.

  • Strengthen Citizen Diplomacy: Support citizen-led diplomacy initiatives that forge friendships and collaboration between Denver and its Sister Cities, cultivating peace through meaningful connections.

Your donation empowers us to keep our mission alive as we honor these milestone anniversaries and expand our global reach. Join us in uniting people and communities worldwide by supporting Denver Sister Cities International today!

Mission

Denver Sister Cities International is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to building global partnerships and lasting connections through education, arts, culture, economic development and humanitarian assistance. We bridge 10 cities, 4 continents, 13 municipal governments, and 20 million people.

Background Statement

Denver Sister Cities International (DSCI) is a proud member of an international network of citizen diplomats from more than 500 communities, with over 2,000 partnerships in 145 countries around the globe. Sister Cities International began in 1956, when President Dwight D. Eisenhower envisioned a way for U.S. cities to create formal partnerships with foreign cities. Municipality to municipality, cities could exchange information and ideas in order to develop friendships and deepen cultural understanding.

Denver had already forged ties with Brest, France in 1948, after the city was nearly completely destroyed during World War II, a local Denver teacher inspired her students to create a fundraising campaign to support a children's hospital center in Brest. The Denver-Brest partnership marked the beginning of the first US-Europe sister city and a long-term relationship of exchange programs that continues to this day. Denver’s continuously expanding international network now includes ten sister cities.
