As a public school of choice, PRA offers students and their families a smaller school environment and a curriculum alternative. The academic program follows the Core Knowledge Foundation's content based curriculum as outlined in the Scope and Sequence and in the book series by E.D.

PRA is currently fundraising for an outdoor Learning Park.  The outdoor learning park will be a place for staff and students to be innovative, imaginative and access additional flexible learning spaces. The multiple locations include the shaded area by first grade and kindergarten, the area to the west of the building and the large native area to the north of the building.  This will include a fenced portion that will encompass the gardens and outdoor flex spaces.  Other potential benefits could include walking paths for exercise and to experience the native foliage.  These additions will enrich learning experiences for all children at Platte River Academy while providing an authentic learning environment for teachers to integrate.

Testimonials

I can't thank PRA enough for how well they set me up for success in High School.  PRA was way more detailed and expected more than my AP and Honors classes do now.  PRA laid the foundation for my success.  Thank you PRA.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES:

*Fostering a Sense of Belonging

Creates a school culture with a family atmosphere which entrusts students to maintain our core values of respect, responsibility, compassion and integrity.

*Honoring Traditions

Gives students a sense of predictability through well-established curriculum-themed events, awards ceremonies, and family activities which promote engagement.

*Developing the Whole Child

Empowers students to be confident and successful in their learning journey by providing an academically rigorous program focused on high expectations, cultural literacy and technology proficiency.

Background Statement

The founding parents of PRA saw a need for a Core Knowledge school in the Highlands Ranch area after they had difficulty getting their own children into the existing Core Knowledge schools in the area. The founders were not trying to reinvent the wheel when they started PRA; they simply looked at what was working at other successful Core Knowledge schools and tried to improve upon those things. In 1997, Platte River Academy opened its doors to 250 students in grades K-6.
