$5,000 Goal

Our vision at The Montessori Institute is to be an inclusive and accessible AMI Montessori teacher training center. We aim to raise $75,000 / year to fund scholarships and stipends to offset the cost of childcare, living expenses and unpaid time off of work so that AMI training is available to all.

Testimonials

Julia Clark Finishing class of 2022: I've never felt or been more supported in an educational setting - thanks for being you, y'all. It's hard work but it's worth every second to hear those words, "I did it!"

Marly Stasi - Class of 2016: A to I Training is a transformative experience that teaches you as much about yourself as it does the child under three. The lecture discussions, theoretical break-out groups, and easy access to trainers and their own personal experiences are invaluable and helped prepare me for the reality of classroom management. The relationships I built with my cohort have been life changing; many of us remain in touch to this day and their insights into working with young children have been irreplaceable in my years teaching and, more so now, as I embark on the adventure of motherhood. The in-person learning experience at TMI offers students a hands-on immersion into the beautifully prepared infant and toddler environments where they can handle age-specific learning material and develop muscle memory through using and presenting the various activities. These courses are hard work, they sometimes take you out of your comfort zone (especially if you must relocate and re-orient yourself to new surroundings while diving into all this course work), but they also provide a valuable experience of BECOMING someone new as you morph into an adult who is truly ready to look at young children differently and help guide them on their unique and amazing journey. I can't put into words how much I value the experience I had at TMI but I hope many more students have the chance to experience it as I did, in person.

Mission

Our mission is to support the lives of all children through AMI accredited teacher training programs and community offerings that provide access to the pedagogical principles and practice formulated by Dr. Maria Montessori for the full development of the human being.

Background Statement

The Montessori Institute moved to Denver, CO in 1988 so that its founder, Judi Orion, could support the historic community-led creation of Family Star - a Montessori infant-toddler-parent education center that began in an abandoned building located across the street from the first Colorado public Montessori elementary school, Mitchell Montessori. Included in that first Denver TMI graduating class were Lereen Castellano, Ruth Coleman-White, Loretta Gonzales, Gloria Montgomery, Marcellina Otii, Dr. Martha Urioste and Debra Kraft, all local Montessori social justice heroes committed to serving "the forgotten citizen - the child." TMI continues its commitment of providing Montessori pedagogical access to local as well as national and global practitioners. Our graduates extend around the world, working with children and in the communities in which they live.

Currently, TMI offers the Assistants to Infancy, or A to I (0-3) training which is the foundation of the Montessori curriculum, as it encompasses child development at the beginning of life from birth to three years and is offered in person over two summers. TMI also offers Elementary (6-12) starting with an AMI Blended Elementary Training Diploma course that begins September 2022. In the future, TMI plans to offer Primary (3-6) and also the full First Plane (0-6). In addition to training, TMI offers Orientation courses at the A to I (0-3), Primary (3-6) and Elementary (6-12) levels.
