Karla Cervantes 2023-24 Golden Z Club Education Fund Recipient and Platinum Z Club Member
"Empowerment, inclusivity, mentorship, growth, success, confidence. These are the words that come to mind when I think about Zonta. However, Zonta is more than words for me, it's something valuable in my life that has given me the guidance to be a successful woman I always wanted to become. As a first generation woman, applying to college, seeking financial support, and building connections, doesn't come naturally to me -- Zonta was there to help. When I was trying to understand who I was and where I belonged as a Latina --- Zonta made me feel welcomed. When I didn't feel like I was living enough --- Zonta introduced me to different life experiences I always wanted to try but never had the courage to do alone. There are many things in life I still don't understand, but one thing I know is Zonta has made me feel confident to pursue the best version of myself...because I can!"
Dareen Khairi 2023-24 Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship Winner, MBA Candidate CU Leeds School of Business
"Growing up as a Palestinian Jordanian Muslim female I understood that marriage was the ultimate societal goal. Pursuing my Master of Business Administration is not only a personal educational endeavor but also a rebellion against societal norms…climbing up the education ladder and furthering myself professionally and personally. By becoming a beacon of change and a role model for other women, I hope to inspire them to pursue their own aspirations.
Beth Amsel 2023-24 EducateZ Scholarship Winner, Graduate Student University of Denver
"Zonta’s mission dovetails beautifully with my career intentions as I pursue a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of Denver...which is possible due to the Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County. Thanks to their generous assistance, not only is my once tenuous future more secure and stable, but I am now one step closer to creating a mental health practice in which I can support and encourage women experiencing life altering shifts that feel insurmountable."
Diane Brenton, Boulder High Spanish teacher and Pantherz Z Club Adviser
"Boulder High PantherZ Z-Club embodies the spirit of service, leadership, and empowerment among young women and men. We envision a world in which women's rights are recognized as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential. In such a world, women have access to all resources and are represented in decision making positions on an equal basis with men. In such a world, no woman lives in fear of violence.
Since our charter in 1982 Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County has been an active part of our Boulder Community We are a chapter of Zonta International and Zonta District 12 and have been supporting women and girls for over 30 years through local service projects, scholarships, advocacy and fundraising. Since 2001 our members have raised more than $500,000 to support community-based and international projects making a significant impact on the lives of women and girls.
In 2012 Zonta Foothills launched our Zonta Educatez program to support at risk women and girls through education and empowerment. Our Zonta Educatez program provides scholarships, mentoring and individual support towards education and empowerment. Each of our scholarships and education funds help to defray the cost of tuition, books, travel and other fees. We support education from high school through graduate school. We raise funds to support our Golden Z Club Education Fund, The Pantherz ZClub Scholarship, the CU Bev Hackbart Scholarship, the Young Women in Public Affairs Award, The Zonta Edcatez Scholarship and our newest away the Bev Sears Climate Action Scholarship.
