Background Statement
As a result of our work, all Coloradans will be informed about the issues that impact their daily lives, engaged in local government and inspired to affect positive change in their communities.
We accomplish our mission by ensuring anyone who lives in our state has access to high quality, reliable, local reporting about the people, systems and organizations responsible for making sure the public's needs are met.
To strengthen the local news infrastructure responsible for producing reporting on behalf of Coloradans, COLab convenes journalists, local news outlets and industry groups to work in tandem on three priorities: Better News, More Trust and Faster Evolution.
Better News: COLab improves the quality of local news by providing training and coaching for journalists, leading collaborative reporting efforts among newsrooms and helping to evolve the ways journalists tell stories.
More Trust: COLab builds trust in local news by building relationships between newsrooms and communities through a commitment to listening and learning.
Faster Evolution: COLab helps newsrooms focus on sustainability by exploring next-generation business models, designing and sharing best practices, serving new audiences and diversifying revenue streams. We also develop and deploy plans to serve news deserts.
